MARCH-APRIL (AUTUMN)

BASE/MID LAYERS

● Base layers: 1–2 sets of merino or lightweight polypropylene tops and long johns 

● 3–4 pairs of wool or hiking socks 

● Breathable hunting shirts 

● Mid layers (lightweight quarter zip or fleece for cooler mornings and evenings) 

● Hunting pants (light to medium weight) 

● Lightweight puffer jacket or warm layer for early mornings 

● Neck gaiter or buff (optional) 

OUTERWEAR

● Lightweight waterproof jacket 

● Waterproof overpants (recommended) 

● Gaiters (helpful in wet grass, mud, and rain) 

OTHER CLOTHING/FOOTWEAR 

● Lightweight gloves (optional) 

● Well broken-in hunting boots with good ankle support and grip 

● Slippers or house shoes to wear in the lodge 

● Casual clothes for lodge downtime/meals 

 

OTHER ITEMS

● Binoculars (8–10 power recommended) 

● Range finder (not essential as your guide will have one) 

● Spotting scope (also not essential but helpful) 

● Small day pack 

● Headlamp or flashlight 

● Sunglasses 

● Water bottle 

● NZ power adaptor (we also have some available to borrow during your hunt) 

● Sunscreen 

● Medication (it is suggested that you bring 2x the amount needed for your trip, and to always pack it in your carry-on, not your checked luggage in case of any baggage delays) 

 

Autumn conditions are generally mild but can change quickly. Mornings may be cool, while afternoons can warm up significantly, so layering is recommended. Short rain showers can be expected at anytime. 

 

MAY-JUNE (WINTER)

BASE/MID LAYERS

● Base layers: 2–3 sets of merino or polypropylene tops and long johns 

● 2-3 pairs of thermal underwear 

● 4-5 pairs of wool socks 

● Breathable hunting shirts 

● Mid layers (medium-weight quarter zip or fleece for changing temperatures) 

● Hunting pants (medium weight) 

● Lightweight puffer/down jacket 

● Neck gaiter or buff 

 

OUTERWEAR

● A good set of waterproof gear (jacket and pants) 

● Gaiters (not essential but helpful in the mud and rain) 

 

OTHER CLOTHING/FOOTWEAR

● Beanie 

● Gloves (a spare pair is recommended) 

● Well broken-in hunting boots with good ankle support and aggressive grip 

● Slippers or house shoes to wear in the lodge 

● Casual clothes for lodge downtime/meals 

 

OTHER ITEMS

Winter conditions in the months of May/June are typically cool, damp, and variable. It can be described as going through all 4 seasons in one day, so be prepared for rain or shine. Layering is the key to staying comfortable throughout the day.
